D & G Quilt Festival

Exhibition by Local Quilt Groups + the World-Wide Whispers Project

18th April – 1st May

Open daily from 10.00am – 4.00pm.

Shambellie House is delighted to announce that the first Dumfries & Galloway Quilt Festival will be held from 18th April until the 1st May.  Featuring work by eight local Quilting groups and the highly innovative World-Wide Whispers display of quilts this is a must see event for everyone interested in arts and crafts.

‘World Wide Whispers’ was started following a conversation between Ann Hill and four other international quilters – Paula Rafferty from Ireland, Jeltje van Essen from The Netherlands, Debbi Cagney from USA and Kim Caskey from Canada when they met in Edinburgh.

They each chose 12 quilters, one for each month of the year, and asked them to make a quilt from a photograph of a quilt that they would receive from the quilter who made the quilt the month before them. This resulted in 12 quilts from 5 countries totalling 60 quilts in all.

The project was started on World Alzheimer Day, 21stSeptember 2017 to demonstrate to the world how easy it is for the mind to change and see things differently.  Friendship and love is at the heart of this project

Ann Hill is Quilter in Residence at Alzheimer Scotland and the Scottish Co-ordinator for the Quilters Guild of the British Isles.

This exhibition highlights the work of eight local Quilt Groups and quilts from private collections.

During the Exhibition we will be running a series of classes and there will be a talk on the Traditional Quilt Collection.
