Description
This 15”x24” wallhanging is created on a background fabric, using various sizes of rectangles in autumn colours.
The trees are appliquéd in position and we’ll use simple straight lines to quilt the project.
The hanging is finished with a couched edge using a decorative yarn.
Kits can be provided for this project which includes the pattern drawn onto the base fabric and everything else needed to complete the project apart from thread. A list of fabric requirements are included under Essential Information.

Autumn Trees Requirements List
85cm backing and base fabric– 200 count Moda calico is the prefect weight for this project
85cm wadding– You will need a thick firm wadding. Vliesline 272 Thermolam is ideal.
2.5m Bondaweb
25cm Tree1
20cm Tree2
20cm Tree3
5cm Fabricfor narrow columns – a good contrast to the background
For the backgroundyou will need lots of fabricsin Autumn colours,
browns, golds, reds, oranges, yellows, purples, and lime greens, perhaps some
turquoise. The fabric should range from light to dark, you won’t need a lot of
any of them, but the more fabric you have the more interesting the
background will be. I have around 60 different fabrics in my samples.
2.5m Yarnfor couching the edge of the quilt top. Look for something interesting to match your choice of fabric – shaggy, boucle, variegated etc. You could match it to the colour of your trees or go for an autumn colour to suit your background. The shaggy yarns can be quite fine, but otherwise go for something around DK thickness.
Quilting Thread – Thread for trees, thread for background – variegated works perfectly for
this project. Thread for couching the edge of the quilt.
General Quilting Supplies
Sewing machine with FMQ foot and an open toe foot if available
6” x 24” ruler – a smaller ruler will also be useful
Cutting mat and rotary cutter.
Small sharp scissors for trees
Pencil
Marking pen/pencil for drawing outline design onto base fabric
An air erasable pen – my marker of choice is the Madeira Magic Pen.
Small Iron
If you are purchasing the kit you will only need to provide the general quilting supplies
and thread.
