Join us for this Shambellie exclusive where you will design your own pattern for fabric with Morag Macpherson who is an internationally renowned textile artist working locally. We will then send off your fabric to be printed and you will return for part two to make this into a silk scarf

This is a unique opportunity to get creative with your own design, taking inspiration from Shambellie’s House and Grounds and will involve a balance of  some basic sketching and taking photographs to generate your original design ideas and then some design work in our digital suite. Morag will be on hand throughout this process to guide, support and inspire you. You will design your own signature logo which will be added to your scarf.

If you wish you can link this with Sybil from Solway Silver on the 27th April, whose workshop will be making personalised silver charms for your own scarf pin.

About the Day

This is a two part experience and will take place on the 28th April for a full day designing your fabric and then the 19th May sewing your silk to make a scarf.

You do not need to be a skilled artist or photographer for the designing.  Some photographs will taken using your phone and some basic drawings and sketches are done using the grounds of Shambellie House for inspiration to generate a pattern. Morag will then guide you through the process of creating a digital design which will be sent off and printed onto silk.

Part one is a full day and will involve some time outdoors so please dress appropriately and with sensible footwear as some of the paths are uneven.  You will also be working in the digital suite which is up a flight of stairs. Unfortunately due to the age of the building there is no lift to this floor.

The half day on the 19th May will be using sewing machines and you can bring your own or use one of our machines here.

Kit and Requiremements

Suitable for beginners – please bring a phone with a camera for taking some photographs outside.

There will be an additional £15 to pay for materials for Morag to have your fabric printed. These costs will be paid directly to your Tutor on the day.

Please note:  Part of the course will take place in the digital suite on the first floor. Unfortunately there is no lift to this floor.
