Description

This workshop has been specifically designed as an introduction to Pilates practice and theory and is ideal for beginners looking to start their Pilates journey and for those who have some experience of Pilates classes.

The course is focussed on those who want to complement the practice of Pilates movements with a solid grounding in the basics of Pilates theory. We focus on the art and science of Human Movement – it’s not just the ‘how’ but also the ‘why’ you will learn:

  • the importance of breathing and posture
  • the principles, concepts and fundamental movements of Pilates including modifications to suit your needs
  • how to move slowly and safely from one exercise to another giving you a “Pilates Flow” that builds both strength and flexibility.

You will develop your own “Pilates Flow” – a practice that can be done on a daily basis to energise, strengthen and tone your body.

Although born and raised in Dumfries, I have also been incredibly lucky to have lived, worked and studied in Los Angeles, Portland (Oregon), San Francisco, Zurich and Edinburgh. I am now located in the beautiful countryside of the south west of Scotland, specifically, under the dark sky of Dumfries and Galloway.

I have always loved Pilates. When years of sitting behind a computer and a sewing machine designing and making clothes started to take its toll and achy stretches and a few groans became a morning routine, I went back to my Pilates classes.

For me, for anyone, the combination of the physical and the mindfulness of Pilates not only improves your strength and flexibility to help with those aches and pains, it also gives a sense of control and focus, a sense of wellbeing. Something everyone, especially now, needs.

I am a fully qualified Body Arts and Science International (better known as BASI) mat instructor who is also certified in

• Pre & Post Natal Pilates
• Pilates for Injuries and Pathologies
• Pilates for Osteoporosis
• Pilates for Hyper-mobility
• Pilates for Scoliosis

with further training in Pilates for Golfers, Cyclists, Children, the Elderly Client and more…full training listed on my website.

I teach 5 group sessions a week both online and locally. I also do 1:1 and 2:1 sessions and occasional cover work for a Pilates studio in Dumfries.
