Photographer, Margaret Soraya has been capturing the landscapes of the Highlands & islands of Scotland since she relocated 25 years ago. Her deep love of remote landscapes and the coast led her leave her roots in Manchester very early on, studying photography on the Welsh coast, living in Cornwall and eventually finding her way to the North West coast of Scotland. Her home is now Drumnadrochit and she spends much of her time travelling solo through remote areas in Scotland with her camera. She has been working as a professional photographer for the past 16 years and has been commissioned to travel to photograph in countries such as Italy, America, Iceland, the Azores, Swaziland, Sri Lanka and Croatia.
Her work has featured in National Geographic Traveller, Rough Guides, Camera Craft, Professional Photographer, Outdoor Photography and within the Scottish broadsheets.
She is a passionate public speaker who enjoys encouraging others to follow their passions, take time out for their photography and use creativity as a tool for well being. She has found her place in life when teaching and encouraging others. A genuine desire to share and inspire, she finds nothing better than to see others develop in their photography, begin to find their own style and feel fulfilled through time out.
Her own work has an emotive and gentle feel to it and she is driven by a love of quiet places where it is possible to fully immerse in the landscape.
Margaret has exhibited her evocative seascapes of the Outer Hebrides on the Isle of Harris and more recently at The Bosham Gallery, Chichester. The exhibition entitled “ Quiet” was based around the healing power of solitude as the antidote to an increasingly busy world and an observation on the strengths of introversion.
The coast and water are Margaret’s main focus for her work but she also enjoys photographing intimate landscapes that are all around – from details of grass and flowers to sand patterns and bird life. As a commercial, portrait and travel photographer for many years, she is also comfortable and knowledgeable when photographing people.
