Description
The rural landscape around Shambellie is very diverse with oak woodland, pasture and merse all contributing to the rich mix. Why not join us as on a “Photo Expedition” to explore this landscape on Sunday 29th June.
One of the aims of the “expedition” is to produce a folding book of the walk. Your tutor, Keith Walker, will begin the day by talking about some of the things to think about when generating images for such a piece of work. Please note any image capturing device can be used with film/digital cameras or phones all being equally appropriate.
The “expedition” begins at Shambellie House, and we’ll walk through the traditional village of New Abbey with its historic corn mill and Sweetheart Abbey before heading out into the local countryside. After passing through coastal oakwoods we’ll make our way along the Nith estuary before stopping off for a visit to the grounds of Kirkconnel House. We’ll finally head back to Shambellie House.
This is a 10km walk and will take approximately 4 ½ hours. Though most of the walk is on footpaths and quiet country roads, participants will need to be reasonably fit and have good footwear and waterproof clothing. They will also need to bring their own packed lunch. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available at the beginning and end of the day.
