Getting to Shambellie House

Located just outside the market town of Dumfries, Shambellie is accessible by road, rail and public transport.

By Car

From Edinburgh & Glasgow take the M74 south to junction 15 at Beatock/Moffat and follow the A701 to Dumfries.  At the Bloomfields roundabout take the third exit right onto the A75.  At the Cuckoo Bridge roundabout take the second exit onto the A76 towards Dumfries.  Go over the next two roundabouts and keep in the right-hand lane, turning right at the traffic lights onto the A780.  Take the third left onto the A710 for New Abbey.  Go through Isle Steps and past Mabie Forest.      

Shambellie House is located on the right-hand side of the road a mile before New Abbey village.  The lodge entrance is located 100 yards after the Shambellie House sign and will take you up a private road to the house.  The next turning on the right after the lodge on the A710 takes you to a car park just off the main road and, once parked, signposts indicate the pathway to walk to the house.

By Train/Bus

The nearest train station to Shambellie House is in Dumfries and there are regular services from Glasgow and Carlisle. There is a limited bus service from Dumfries to New Abbey. To plan your journey visit Traveline Scotland.
