Local School Children Discover Shambellie
Local children from New Abbey and Kirkbean Primary schools have been visiting Shambellie in workshops to learn about the past and discover modern day domestic skills. They took part in a morning of sewing placemats which match the chairs they painted in an earlier project. They enjoyed using the sewing machines for the first time although some of them might have been thinking they were racing cars!! Some particularly enjoyed the ironing part of the lesson and promised they would be helping with the ironing at home – perhaps we need to check with their parents if they kept that promise? ……
The children also came to study the Victorians, to learn more about life below and above stairs, hear some Victorian stories and play with some old fashioned toys. They particularly liked the story about the monkeys and the hats, and then having the opportunity to play with the cheeky monkey penny toy.
