Quilt Exhibition in full swing

Our annual quilt exhibition is now in full swing, with the usual inspiring array of quilts from Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland and even Hawaii. Entry price includes tea and cake and with hundreds of quilts to view,  you will certainly need to take a break to enjoy them all. There is also a raffle, tombola and material on sale and you can even have your picture taken with our mermaid!

Here is the feedback from one of our first visitors through the door. “Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed the exhibition this morning. Blown away by the one with black background and floral work. So beautiful!! Though of course so many of the exhibits were outstanding. “

Which one will be your favourite?

We have had more than 600 visitors so far so don’t miss your chance to see this wonderful exhibition, which closes on the 6th October. There are so many wonderful and varied quilts to see including a very special artwork by local textile artist Jo Gallant. This amazing piece was originally a commission for a community based textile installation on a curved wall within the Tourist Information Centre, Dumfries.

The design, in dyed, embroidered and quilted cotton, echoes the curves of the building and the rolling landscape of the region and illustrates features and landmarks of the area.  Jo worked with six different embroidery and patchwork groups across the region utilising their skills and enthusiasms while also teaching them new techniques.

With the visitor centre now closed, Shambellie House is delighted to have the opportunity to showcase the beautiful landscapes of our region with this stunning textile design. Don’t miss your chance to see this unique 650x125cm quilt representing landscapes, landmarks, flora and fauna across the breadth of our region.

Remember to check out our website to see what’s on at Shambellie House. We think there is something for everyone so please help us spread the word to make sure everyone knows about this amazing local resource!
