Description
Weird Waste Words: making up marine litter stories with Anna Wilson
Date: Monday 2nd March 2026
Time: 11.30 – 1pm
Cost: FREE – in association with Solway Firth Partnership and funded by Marine Fund Scotland.
| If you have ever participated in a beach clean – or indeed been to a beach – along the Solway, you probably know that strange things often wash up on our shores. Alongside the seaweed and driftwood and mermaid’s purses, we find all sorts of marine litter – bottles and buoys, fenders, fishboxes, floats, footballs and footwear, nets and nurdles, toys and tyres.
In this workshop, we’ll gather together a collection of this flotsam and jetsam – remnants of the modern world that have neem returned to us by the sea, perhaps as a gift or perhaps to haunt us – and use it as inspiration for creative stories, whether written, drawn or spoken.
At the end of the workshop, you’ll have the choice of sharing your story with other participants. And if you agree, it will be included in the Gather project exhibition, where your stories will be assembled to tell a collective tale of the weird world of marine litter.
No prior experience of making up stories is needed – although I’ve never met anyone who hasn’t made up something at least once before.

| Rubbish, paper and pens provided – feel free to bring along your own marine litter items, though, as well as your imaginations/ |
