Description
Take yourself on a walking tour of New Abbey to learn about the history of Sweetheart Abbey &Lady Devorgilla, theĀ Cornmill in the village and Shambellie House & the Stewart Family. The day offers the chance to visit all three historic buildings for free, walking on the new footpath linking the village to Shambellie House. There will be reenactors and guides at all three locations bringing the history to life, with a map and guides to help. Once you have dropped in to each location you will you will begin to understand the history of this special conservation village and how it has come to be.
Book for Storytelling with Bruce’s Trust at Sweetheart Abbey which will take place at 11am and 1 pm, otherwise drop in anytime between 11am and 3pm to enjoy a historical day out. Refreshments will be available at Shambellie House and the local cafe and shop will be open.

Booking required for Storytelling at Sweetheart Abbey.
Maps can be collected from the Cornmill, Shambellie House, Sweetheart Abbey, New Abbey Shop and the Cafe.
Please wear appropriate clothes for the weather as stories at Sweetheart Abbey are outdoors. Also sensible footwear as part of the paths to Shambellie House is through woodland.
The Cornmill ands Shambellie House will be open from 11am until 3pm.

What's On - Shambellie House
John Stewart , Chair of the Shambellie House Trust and descendant of the Stewart Family, will be at Shambellie House to tell the history of Shambellie House and and the Stewart Family’s connections with New Abbey and share photographs of Shambellie in days gone by.
We also have a lovely temporary exhibition ‘ Washed Up and Blue’ in our display room.
