Description
2 day Batik painting workshop
Date: Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th April 2026
Time: 9.30 – 4.30 each day
Come and discover the Magic of Batik with international Batik artist, Rosi Robinson. Batik is a traditional Far Eastern resist technique of decorating fabric, using wax and dyes. In this two day workshop, you will learn how to apply hot liquid wax to cotton fabric and paper. You will experiment with a variety of traditional and contemporary waxing tools – including brushes and found objects; and will be shown different ways of applying washes of colourful dyes. You will learn how to build up a design or batik picture starting with the lightest colour, building up to the darkest; how to create textures and how to remove wax at the end of the process to reveal a beautiful batik painting or design. You should have at least one or possibly two finished pieces of work at the end of the weekend.
Rosi will work with each person individually. Both beginners and those with experience are welcome.
Batik has been Rosi’s passion for over 50 years! Rosi was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. She is based in Sussex, England, but has close connections with Shambellie House. She loves doing batik, exhibiting it and of course teaching it! Come and play!
